Back from vacation!
vacations are little sweet miracles even when it rains during them.
here's a few pics from our vacation on orcas island.
cart a hippie in your ride (its encouraged):

i found boone's & brought it up to the island:

checked out some waterfalls near camp moran in the moran state park:

things caught:
dogfish

look at its eyes

crab

a crazy weird starfish was caught too. the picture was blurry.
we found some lucky mumus to fish in:

tooled around all over:

i wonder what they make at studio 420:

there are some rad trees up there:

rad mailboxes:

rad lego looking structures:

& rad weird looking sunsets:

we had some down times due to rain/lighting-thunderstorms/tired kids/seasick dads/hung over moms but it was all nice & chill. ^___^
but its now my new goal to become a farming hippie on some island that beach combs all day:

last day of kindergarten...
sigh- another school year has come & gone...
this year has been bitter sweet any mom can sympathize what it is like to send your baby off to school. its both really awesome & sad in the same breath.
my baby-baby's last day of school is today (my older ones have tomorrow as their last day). what's the sayng? when baby gets old you are old- well my mom said that to me when i turned 30 2 years ago.

what a big girl she is!
watch out summer & first grade!!!

easy on the eyes
i have always been a huge fan of fine art. i spent a lot of time at the rijksmuseum & the van gogh museum when i had an opportunity to travel to the netherlands. i know i've mentioned it before but i had quite the emotional experience standing in front of van gogh's painting Irises, 1890. i was able to stand less than 3 feet away from that piece and seeing a piece of art that close really moved me. i know that sounds all touchy feely- artsy fartsy- but its very true.
i've had other opportunities to see fantastic art up close like a personal collection of liz mcgrath's art, a mark ryden exhibit and there's been loads more. i'm extremely lucky to live in seattle where we have some great galleries, art walks & museums.
however there's always something much like the van gogh painting i mentioned that really moves me. something magical almost. audrey kawasaki's art is really captivating to me. for me i believe its the fine lines that create the eyes-lips-, the subtle woodgrain foundation that just fits. but finally the something that i cannot put into words that speaks to me.
there is a feature on her in the july issue of juxtapoz magazine. she offers a preview of it via her blog.
