Lungs Filled with Sea Air

Being born and raised on an island I think I start to get a little twitchy if I don't get to breathe in sea air after long periods of time. I live too far inland now to have access to it. I filled up my lungs and enjoyed the silence that is hard to come by in the suburb I live in.
While up there I did some painting which is what I really love to do. I hope to create a paint palette table like the one picture above. I don't create masterpieces but silly bathroom art or Seuss art.
Also while up on the island I discovered where all sorts of cute buttons go to die:
I picked up a few treasures from that bin. It took me a while to sort through it.

Nonsensical Links Friday
The February 24th, 2012 edition.
Did you know that there is a very rare blood disorder that causes a person to appear blue? The Fugate Family is one of the most noted groups who suffer from the disorder.
I finally discovered some ideas for using oyster mushrooms thanks to a Flickr friend who has been growing them. I've resisted buying the kits because I don't really care for oyster mushrooms and had a limited recipe base for them. I'm more of a portobello mushroom kind of girl. But I'm thinking about picking up a kit just to watch them grow then make a bunch of Hot & Sour soup. You know mushrooms are cool.
Earlier this week I wrote a post about Words for my 17 year old self. I'm sure it got hits because I posted a picture of me when I was 17 in a bikini top,
but I wasn't expecting to get such sweet messages about relating to it. Check it out will you?
Admittedly this post is not coming from its normal location - I am currently away with the "17 year old mini me" so any new orders from the Etsy shop will ship out Monday.

Sakura Kanzashi
An iconic sign of spring the sakura 桜 (cherry blossom) is definitely the most requested style of kanzashi.
Lovers of spring, Asianophiles, brides and even cosplayers love the beauty of the actual flower. The symbolism behind the flowers can be translated into "life is fleeting". A better way to say it straight from Wikipedia:
I think its beautiful that a centuries old tradition of flower viewing still exists in our modern technology filled lives. I'm sure it has much to do with the physical beauty of the flowers. So unique and absolutely perfect.
One of mother nature's most perfect creations.
Okay I'll stop before I get too buddhist on you guys. I am however doing a series of sakura this year. It has been a while since I've done some elaborate spring pieces and with some personal "bumps" in life its nice to sit down make something beautiful. So please stay tuned for those.
